ECE 561 : Error Control Codes
Fall. 4 credits.
Prerequisites: ECE 320 or 521 or equivalent; strong familiarity with linear algebra.
S. B. Wicker.
Lectures. TR 1:25-2:40, PH 307
Introduction to the theory and practice of error control codes. Topics include algebraic codes, convolutional codes, concatenated codes, and codes on graphs. Considers the construction and decoding of Reed-Solomon (RS) codes in some detail as well as the iterative (turbo) decoding of concatenated codes and codes on graphs. The use of error control in wireless systems is discussed throughout the course.
